a month agoIn my opinion the best place for breakfast in Abilene. If we lived in the city we would most likely go there 2-3 times weekly instead of monthly as we now do. I highly recommend this restaurant, just remember it is cash only.

4 months agoThis is old school diner complete with counter and bar stools. And loads of pig memorabilia! But the food...yum! I had the Mr. Pig omelet complete with hash browns and biscuits and gravy. The omelet was loaded up with bacon, sausage, onions, cheese and came with a thimble of tasty salsa. It was cooked perfectly. The hash browns were okay. I had to add salt (which I rarely do) and pepper, but there were some nice crunchy bits which were great. The biscuits were tall and ready to handle big spoonfuls of the peppered gravy. Of course, I added more pepper because YUM. I don't usually take leftovers but I liked the gravy and hope I can just heat it up for a later treat. This diner is not high brow, and maybe a shiny layer of paint or a nice fat pink pig chef mural might make it sparkle, but it is filled with staff who know their customers. The servers greet their regulars by name or a hug. It's kitschy with the huge collection of pigs of all sorts. It's serving good country style cooking with lots of comfort tucked in. Closed on Sunday and Monday, and no plans on closing their business (as someone mentioned in a previous post). Cash only.

5 months agoOld school diner with great made from scratch food served on melamine plates AND amazing waitresses who call you sweetie or honey! This is a must try eatery for the nostalgia of it all... and a really great meal. Cash only is accepted. There's an ATM on site if you've forgotten. Friends had the lunch special of Chicken fried steak that came with mashed potatoes, green beans, creamy corn, a fluffy diner roll that reaches toward the heavens & a cute little serving of peach cobbler for dessert. With their iced tea & tax, it was $10.01...Amazing! Steak & eggs is served all day & comes with crispy hashbrowns, 2 homemade biscuits & a bowl of gravy for $15.99. It's my favorite, though I haven't finished it once. Highly recommend!

3 months agoCharming dinner with an old-fashioned flair. They serve a generous breakfast, and the biscuits are divine. The sausage gravy may not be as good as Mom's, but it is pretty darn good. And the hashbrowns were actually browned, not the pale, soggy things a certain breakfast chain tends to serve and not the fried potato patties fast foods places serve.

2 weeks agoMy wife loves to come to the Dixie pig to eat breakfast and usually Misty is very friendly and a great waitress but this morning she was loud, short in conversation and when we asked for our bill she continued eating at the front and taking her time getting us taken care of. When she did come with the bill, she slammed it on the table and said “yep” Hoping it was just a bad day for her. Food was amazing as always.

2 weeks agoDon't know how this place had a 4.3 rating.. wait staff provided drinks and menus right away, even came back and took our order promptly. After food was delivered, never came back to check on us at all. The hash browns were stale, tasted very old: pancakes had add taste and were tough. Bacon, eggs and sausage were ordinary. Not what I would call an above average restaurant. Oh and by the way, they are cash only. It is posted in the door but not real noticible.
